ACHR Information Child Services Adult Services

ACHR offers a wide range of services to adults.  Most of the services listed below are available in Lee and Russell Counties in Alabama and most have income guidelines.

Adult Education

Adult education offerings include the Aide to Indo Chinese Refugees (AIR) program, English-as-a-Second Language for foreign visitors, and training programs leading to careers in child care and related areas.

 
Child Care Feeding 

The  Child and Adult Care Feeding Program (CACFP) helps more than 50 home child care providers offer nutritious meals and snacks for the nearly 400 children under their care in Lee, Macon, Russell, and Bullock counties in Alabama.  CACFP provides partial reimbursement of food expenses and thus helps providers offer quality services at reasonable rates.

 
CSBG

The Community Service Block Grant (CSBG) programs include a wide range of helping programs such as Emergency Crisis Intervention, Weatherization and Energy Assistance serving citizens in Lee County, Alabama.

 
Fatherhood

The Head Start/Early Head Start staff provide several activities during the year specific to fathers. 

 
Family Services Center (FSC) 

The Family Services Center program is designed to enable Head Start families to become self-sustaining through intensive case management, training, and advocacy.

 
Housing Counseling and Low Income Housing 

ACHR is a HUD-Certified Housing Counseling Agency.  Comprehensive housing counseling is provided to residents in Lee County.  ACHR provides affordable housing at two locations in Lee County and in five other counties in Alabama.

 
Hunger Coalition and Hotline

The Alabama Coalition Against Hunger (ACAH) is a statewide community advocacy organization working on problems of hunger and malnutrition among those living with low incomes.  ACAH provides training and technical assistance to community organizations seeking to improve the lives of those living with low incomes.  The Hunger Hotline number is 1-800-622-3079.

 
WIC

The Woman, Infants and Children's program (WIC) offers nutritious, supplemental food to low-income pregnant and nursing women, infants, and children under five who have anemia or other health/nutrition problems that can limit growth and development.  ACHR provides services in Lee County at Boykin Center in Auburn and the Darden Center in Opelika.
